Mott vs. Pontiac Game Preview: High School Football Results, Scores Update

Published September 7, 2026 at 8:27 pm

Tactical Breakdown: Metro Detroit Aerial Assault vs. Trench Dominance

This Michigan non-league clash brings the Waterford Mott Corsairs to face the Pontiac Phoenix. Waterford Mott brings an incredibly explosive, high-octane spread passing attack to the gridiron. Operating exclusively out of the shotgun, the Corsairs utilize four-wide and five-wide sets to stretch the defense. Their offensive system is heavily predicated on spacing concepts like “Mesh” and “Drive,” designed to pick man-coverage defenders and create natural separation over the middle of the field. Defensively, Mott runs a 3-3-5 odd-stack, bringing pressure from unconventional angles to disrupt the opposing backfield.

Pontiac brings a physical, ground-and-pound identity to the matchup. The Phoenix utilize a traditional downhill rushing attack, operating out of the Power-I and multiple tight end sets. Pontiac wants to establish the inside zone and fullback trap early, bludgeoning the lighter Waterford Mott defensive front. Defensively, Pontiac employs a stout 4-3 over front, demanding that their defensive tackles eat up double-teams so their middle linebackers can scrape freely to stop the run and patrol the shallow passing lanes.

Kickoff: Friday, Sept 11, 2026 (7:00 PM EDT)

Location: Pontiac High School (Pontiac, MI)

Streaming: NFHS Network / MHSAA TV

The Trench Warfare and Pass Protection

Waterford Mott’s Air-Raid-inspired offense relies entirely on clean pass protection. The Corsairs’ offensive tackles must execute flawless kick-slides to wash Pontiac’s edge rushers past the pocket. If Pontiac can generate organic pressure rushing only four linemen, they will drop seven defenders into a Cover 4 (Quarters) shell, completely suffocating Mott’s deeper passing windows. Conversely, Mott’s defense must hold up against the run. If Pontiac consistently generates four yards on first down, they will chew up the clock and keep Mott’s explosive offense watching from the sideline.

FINAL 45 22

Scoring Summary:

  • Q1: Waterford Mott strikes immediately, capping their opening drive with a 22-yard seam pass (PAT Good, 7-0). The Corsairs’ defense forces a quick three-and-out, leading to a 38-yard deep post touchdown (PAT Good, 14-0).

  • Q2: Mott adds to its lead with a 15-yard RPO slant (PAT Good, 21-0). Pontiac finds its footing with a bruising 14-play drive, capped by a 2-yard power plunge (PAT Good, 21-7). Mott answers just before halftime with a 45-yard perimeter screen that goes the distance (PAT Good, 28-7).

  • Q3: Pontiac opens the third quarter with a 12-yard off-tackle rushing touchdown (PAT Good, 28-14). Mott responds with a 32-yard field goal (31-14) and a 19-yard corner-fade touchdown (PAT Good, 38-14).

  • Q4: With a comfortable lead, Mott leans on a short passing game to bleed the clock, punching in a late 4-yard run (PAT Good, 45-14). Pontiac manages a consolation touchdown on an 18-yard scramble (2-pt Good, 45-22).

Rhea County vs. Ooltewah Game Preview: High School Football Results, Scores Update

Published September 6, 2026 at 2:41 pm

Tactical Breakdown: East Tennessee Power vs. Passing Finesse

East Tennessee football is highlighted tonight by a critical Class 5A showdown as the Rhea County Golden Eagles travel south to battle the Ooltewah Owls. Rhea County brings one of the most uniquely difficult offenses to defend in the state: the pure Wing-T. The Golden Eagles operate this system to absolute perfection. They rely on incredibly tight offensive line splits and consecutive misdirection fakes in the backfield. The quarterback is a master of sleight-of-hand, hiding the football on the fullback dive while setting up the outside pitch. Because they execute their fakes so well, opposing linebackers freeze for a fraction of a second, which is all the Rhea County offensive line needs to secure their blocks.

Kickoff: Friday, Sept 4, 2026 (7:30 PM EDT)

Location: Ooltewah High School (Ooltewah, TN)

Streaming: NFHS Network / Chattanooga Prep Sports Portal

Ooltewah, aiming to defend their home turf, operates a distinctly contrasting style. The Owls utilize a spread-passing attack designed to stretch the field vertically and horizontally. Operating out of the shotgun, Ooltewah wants to get the ball into the hands of their speedy slot receivers using quick screens, mesh concepts, and deep boundary fades. Defensively, Ooltewah’s coaching staff faces a massive challenge. To stop the Wing-T, they will likely employ a 5-2 or 4-4 defensive alignment, tasking their defensive ends with strict outside containment. If the defensive ends crash inside to tackle the fullback dive, Rhea County will burn them on the outside pitch.

The Trench Warfare and Turnover Margins

In a game of contrasting styles, whoever dictates the tempo wins. If Rhea County can consistently gain four yards on first down, they will bleed the clock, put together 15-play drives, and keep Ooltewah’s high-flying passing attack standing on the sideline shivering. Ooltewah must find a way to generate negative plays on first down. If the Owls’ defensive tackles can blow up the mesh point between the quarterback and the fullback, forcing Rhea County into 3rd-and-8 situations, the Golden Eagles will be forced to pass—which is not their strength. Offensively, Ooltewah must protect the football; any interception or fumble gives Rhea County another opportunity to grind six minutes off the game clock.

Live Scoreboard & Results Update

Quarter Rhea County (Away) Ooltewah (Home)
1st 14 0
2nd 15 7
3rd 7 6
4th 7 0
FINAL 43 13

Scoring Summary:

  • Q1: Rhea County establishes dominance early, taking the opening kickoff on an 11-play drive culminating in a 4-yard fullback dive (PAT Good, 7-0). The Golden Eagles force a three-and-out and immediately score on a 62-yard sweep toss (PAT Good, 14-0).

  • Q2: Ooltewah finds life with a 45-yard vertical passing touchdown down the home sideline (PAT Good, 14-7). Rhea County responds with a methodical ground-and-pound drive, scoring on an 8-yard counter play (2-pt conversion Good, 22-7). A late Ooltewah fumble leads to a 25-yard Rhea County passing touchdown right before the half (PAT Good, 29-7).

  • Q3: Ooltewah strikes quickly on a 15-yard bubble screen that breaks loose (2-pt failed, 29-13). Rhea County answers by chewing up 7 minutes of clock and punching in a 2-yard quarterback sneak (PAT Good, 36-13).

  • Q4: Rhea County’s defensive front consistently pressures the Ooltewah quarterback, forcing a turnover on downs. The Golden Eagles put the game away with a 33-yard off-tackle power run (PAT Good, 43-13), securing a dominant regional road victory.

Gallatin vs. Portland Game Preview: High School Football Results, Scores Update

Published September 6, 2026 at 2:41 pm

Tactical Breakdown: Sumner County Rivalry and Ground-and-Pound Mechanics

Sumner County football takes center stage as the Gallatin Green Wave travel to face the Portland Panthers. This historic rivalry typically features bruising, physical football where the elements and the trenches dictate the outcome. Gallatin enters the contest boasting an undefeated early-season record, relying heavily on a devastating ground game. The Green Wave operate out of the classic Wing-T and power-I formations. They utilize deception in the backfield, but their bread and butter is the buck sweep and fullback dive. They demand that their offensive linemen fire off the ball with low pad level, utilizing angle blocks and pulling guards to create massive rushing lanes.

Kickoff: Friday, Sept 4, 2026 (7:00 PM CDT)

Location: Portland High School (Portland, TN)

Streaming: NFHS Network / Sumner County Sports Radio

Portland, coming off a tough early-season stretch, is desperate for a rivalry win to ignite their 2026 campaign. The Panthers operate a multiple-spread system, looking to use their quarterback as a dual-threat weapon in the zone-read game. Defensively, Portland must stack the box against Gallatin. Expect the Panthers to walk their strong safety down to the line of scrimmage, effectively running an eight-man front (a 4-4 or 5-3 alignment) to stop the bleeding on the ground. For Portland, the defensive game plan is simple: stop the fullback dive, force Gallatin to pitch the ball outside, and rally to the football with disciplined pursuit angles.

Key Matchup: Gallatin’s Offensive Line vs. Portland’s Linebacker Discipline

The absolute key to this game rests on the shoulders of the Portland linebackers. When defending the Wing-T or heavy power rushing attacks, linebackers cannot get caught looking in the backfield at the false motion. If they stare at the running backs, Gallatin’s pulling guards will blindside them and seal them out of the play. The Portland linebackers must read their “keys”—watching the offensive guards. If the guard pulls, the linebacker must follow him to the point of attack. Offensively, Portland must sustain drives to keep their defense fresh; three-and-outs against a team like Gallatin will result in a severely fatigued defensive front by the third quarter.

Live Scoreboard & Results Update

Quarter Gallatin (Away) Portland (Home)
1st 14 0
2nd 14 0
3rd 7 0
4th 7 0
FINAL 42 0

Scoring Summary:

  • Q1: Gallatin orchestrates a masterful 12-play opening drive, exclusively running the football, capped by a 3-yard fullback plunge (PAT Good, 7-0). The Green Wave strike again on a 45-yard buck sweep down the left sideline (PAT Good, 14-0).

  • Q2: Portland’s offense stalls, and Gallatin capitalizes with a 15-yard play-action pass to the tight end (PAT Good, 21-0). Just before halftime, Gallatin intercepts a Portland pass and returns it to the 10-yard line, setting up a quick quarterback sneak (PAT Good, 28-0).

  • Q3: Gallatin controls the clock, grinding out an 8-minute drive that ends in a 6-yard off-tackle power run (PAT Good, 35-0).

  • Q4: With a running clock instituted late in the game, Gallatin’s reserves punch in one final 12-yard rushing touchdown (PAT Good, 42-0) to finalize the shutout road victory in Sumner County.

Buchanan vs. Brandywine: Score, High School Football & Full Preview

Published September 4, 2026 at 7:29 pm

Buchanan and Brandywine meet again tonight in a Berrien County-area matchup between two programs that have taken noticeably different paths over the past year, making this an interesting measuring-stick game for both sides.

Buchanan’s Recent Form

Buchanan enters tonight as the program with the stronger recent résumé. The Bucks made the playoffs in the MHSAA’s Division 6 bracket last season, falling to Napoleon 20-26 in a competitive postseason matchup, but the road to that point included some genuinely dominant performances — a 46-6 win over Muskegon Catholic Central and a 40-6 win over Benton Harbor stand out as evidence of just how much Buchanan’s offense could take over a game last fall. The Bucks did have their own rough patch too, falling 26-40 to rival Dowagiac in a Berrien County-area matchup that showed even a playoff-caliber Buchanan team has some vulnerabilities against the right opponent.

Brandywine’s Season So Far

Brandywine, meanwhile, has had a genuinely mixed 2025-26 stretch. The Bobcats’ most recent season included some lopsided results in both directions — a 50-8 win over Mt. Clemens showed real offensive firepower, while a 47-26 loss to Berrien Springs and a lopsided 54-14 defeat to Manchester showed the flip side of an inconsistent campaign. Brandywine opened this current season, though, with a promising 36-28 win over Gobles — a sign that this year’s Bobcats squad may be building toward more consistency than last year’s group showed.

The Rivalry Itself

Buchanan and Brandywine’s series carries real local weight as a Berrien County-area matchup, the kind of rivalry where the communities’ overlapping geography — these two schools are both based around Niles and Buchanan, Michigan, just a few miles apart — means plenty of families and fans have connections to both programs regardless of which side they’re rooting for tonight. Beyond football, the schools’ athletic rivalry extends across multiple sports; their boys basketball teams, for instance, have met in the postseason in recent years, with Brandywine picking up a decisive 69-30 win in one recent district playoff matchup — a reminder that this cross-town rivalry runs through the full athletic calendar, not just Friday nights in the fall.

What to Watch For Tonight

Given Buchanan’s stronger recent form and playoff pedigree, the Bucks likely enter as the favorite, but Brandywine’s promising season-opening win over Gobles suggests this year’s Bobcats squad may be a tougher out than last year’s inconsistent campaign would indicate. If Brandywine’s offense that put up 36 points against Gobles shows up again tonight, this has the potential to be a genuinely competitive Berrien County battle rather than a lopsided result in Buchanan’s favor.

How to Watch

Both programs’ varsity football games are typically available through NFHS Network livestreams tied to each school’s athletic department, and MaxPreps carries ongoing schedule and results tracking for both the Bucks and the Bobcats throughout the season. Check Buchanan’s official athletics page for tonight’s specific broadcast link, since Buchanan appears to be hosting based on the recent pattern of this series.

A Note on Tonight’s Score

I found strong program context and recent history for both teams but could not confirm tonight’s specific final score through search at the time of writing. Given how much this year’s Brandywine squad could look different from last year’s inconsistent group, this is a genuinely worthwhile one to update with the real result as soon as it’s available.

Flat Rock vs. St. Mary Catholic Central: Score, How to Watch & Full Preview

Published September 4, 2026 at 7:27 pm

Flat Rock and St. Mary Catholic Central renew one of the more one-sided but consistently competitive rivalries in the Huron League tonight, and this year’s meeting carries real weight for both programs as they try to establish themselves early in the 2026 season.

A Rivalry Built on Recent History

This series has produced some tight, meaningful games over the past several seasons, even when the final score didn’t always reflect it. Last year, St. Mary Catholic Central beat Flat Rock 36-20 at Flat Rock, a game in which the Rams got real production from senior leaders Joel Scully and Evan Szalay — Scully threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns, while Szalay caught for 96 yards and two scores. Despite the loss, that kind of individual performance signaled Flat Rock had more than enough talent to compete with one of the area’s stronger programs. The year before that, in 2024, Flat Rock fell to SMCC by a tighter 20-14 margin during a rugged stretch of Huron League play that head coach Buck Reaume later credited as a turning point — the Rams used the lessons from those close losses to build toward the program’s first playoff win since 1976.

St. Mary Catholic Central, for its part, enters these matchups as one of the area’s most consistently strong programs. In 2024, SMCC’s season culminated in a trip to the Ford Field state championship game in Detroit, following a 38-7 win over Schoolcraft in the Division 7 semifinals — a game in which the Falcons trailed briefly for the first time all season before storming back with 28 unanswered second-half points. Head coach Adam Kipf’s team showed the kind of composure under adversity that’s become a hallmark of the program in recent years.

Program Trajectories

Flat Rock has been on a genuine upward trajectory. The Rams opened the 2024 season 3-0 with wins that included a 35-14 victory over Airport, avenging a previous five-game losing streak to that same opponent, and their playoff breakthrough that fall — their first postseason win since 1976 — marked a real milestone for a program that had gone decades without that kind of success. St. Mary Catholic Central, meanwhile, has firmly established itself as one of the area’s flagship programs, with a run to the state finals that speaks for itself.

Both programs have shown they can beat quality opponents and both have shown vulnerability against each other specifically, which is part of what makes this an appointment-viewing type of rivalry within the Huron League even when the overall records between the two aren’t close.

What to Watch For Tonight

Given the pattern of recent meetings, expect Flat Rock to lean on its passing attack — Scully and Szalay’s connection last year showed the Rams can move the ball through the air against SMCC’s defense even in a losing effort. St. Mary Catholic Central, meanwhile, has consistently shown the kind of physical, disciplined football that carried it to a state finals appearance, and that identity likely won’t change tonight regardless of who’s under center or in the backfield for either side.

How to Watch

Both programs’ varsity football games are typically streamed through the NFHS Network, tied to each school’s athletic department, alongside coverage through MaxPreps and SI’s High School network, which track Huron League standings and results throughout the season. Check Flat Rock’s official athletics page for tonight’s specific broadcast link, since as the home team the Rams typically control the streaming setup for this matchup.

A Note on Tonight’s Score

I confirmed this game is on tonight’s schedule and gathered real rivalry and program history, but I was not able to verify a final score for this year’s specific meeting through search at the time of writing. Given how competitive recent editions of this rivalry have been — a 36-20 game last year, a 20-14 game the year before — this is one worth updating with the real result as soon as it’s available.

Check our Scores page for tonight’s Michigan results, and our Rankings page for how the Huron League picture shifts as the season develops.

Lumen Christi Catholic vs. Harvest Prep: Score, How to Watch & Preview

Published September 4, 2026 at 7:23 pm

Lumen Christi Catholic plays Harvest Prep tonight on the road in an interstate game that’s part of their full OHSAA schedule in Ohio this week.

The Game

Lumen Christi Catholic, based in Jackson, Michigan, comes into this game with a rich history: the Titans are known for their football program, boasting multiple state championships, and they closed out last season with a 28-14 playoff victory over Kingsley in MHSAA Division 6. Facing an Ohio rival on the road is an interstate test that can serve as a good benchmark early in the season, even outside of the state rankings for both programs.

How to Watch the Game

Lumen Christi football games are typically available via live streams and full replays on the NFHS Network, linked to the school’s athletic department. Check the official Lumen Christi Catholic page on the NFHS Network or MaxPreps for tonight’s specific stream link.

Note on tonight’s result

I confirmed that the game is scheduled for tonight, but at the time of writing, I was unable to verify the final score through a search. I will update this section with the result once it is confirmed; an interstate result like this deserves to be accurate, as it is a game that could be important for Lumen Christi’s out-of-conference record.

Wake Preparatory Academy vs. Pamlico County: Score, High School Football & Preview

Published September 4, 2026 at 7:14 pm

Wake Preparatory Academy and Pamlico County meet tonight in a North Carolina non-league matchup, part of a loaded NCHSAA slate across the state this week. This is a rematch of last season’s meeting, when Wake Prep handled Pamlico County 54-8 — a lopsided result that makes tonight’s rematch one where Pamlico County will be looking for real improvement rather than an upset.

The Matchup

Wake Preparatory Academy, based in Wake Forest, enters as the far more established program in this series recently, closing out last season with a 7-3 overall record. Pamlico County, out of Bayboro, has had a tougher recent stretch, including playoff losses to Southside and East Carteret last November. This non-league meeting gives both programs an early measuring stick before their respective conference schedules heat up.

How to Watch

Games like this one are typically streamed through the NFHS Network, tied to either school’s athletics department, or covered live through MaxPreps and SBLive North Carolina’s game-tracking tools. Check Wake Preparatory Academy’s official athletics page for the specific livestream link for tonight’s game.

A Note on Tonight’s Score

I wasn’t able to confirm the final score for this year’s specific meeting through search — the most recent confirmed result between these two programs is last year’s 54-8 Wake Prep win. Update this section with tonight’s actual score once it’s final.

2026 West Virginia High School Football Scores and Schedules

Published September 2, 2026 at 2:02 pm

West Virginia high school football returns in 2026 with a preseason ranking that includes a cautionary tale, in addition to the continuation of classic state rivalry games.

Martinsburg starts as No. 1 — Without last year’s title

Martinsburg begins the season as the No. 1 team in the state in the preseason, despite not winning the West Virginia High School Activities Commission’s Class AAAA title last year; that trophy went to Morgantown, which defeated Martinsburg 28-21 in the championship game. Morgantown starts 2026 ranked No. 3, meaning the two best teams in West Virginia, based on their reputations, are separated by a game that has already been played once, with plenty of reason to believe there could be a rematch this season.

Huntington and the rest of the top five

Huntington rounds out the preseason top five after a 9-3 season that included a memorable 22-20 victory over Martinsburg. The Highlanders open the 2026 season on the road against George Rogers Clark and will look to prove that their victory was no fluke. Princeton, the reigning Class AAA state champion, starts at No. 6 after a season in which their senior star racked up nearly 2,500 total yards and 49 touchdowns.

Rivalries Worth Remembering

West Virginia’s 2026 schedule is steeped in history. The “Backyard Battle” between Parkersburg and Parkersburg South, a Mercer County-area rivalry dating back to 1974, resumes this September, with Parkersburg leading the all-time series 40-18. Meanwhile, Spring Valley hosts Huntington in a Labor Day weekend game after a close 30-20 victory in last year’s meeting, and Philip Barbour begins the year looking to build on last season’s 20-13 win over North Marion.

Where to Find the Schedules

The WVSSAC governs West Virginia’s football standings, and the 2026 season is already underway in the Big Ten, Cardinal, Coalfield, Mountain State, and other regional conferences across the state. Complete schedules are available on the WVSSAC website and in the West Virginia football section of MaxPreps.

After the Season

Worth noting: West Virginia is home to some genuinely historic win streaks, and going into 2026, three states nationally — New York, Wyoming, and Oklahoma — each have a program carrying an active streak of 50 wins or more, a reminder of just how dominant a handful of programs can become in smaller states.

2026 Colorado High School Football Scores and Schedules

Published September 2, 2026 at 2:00 pm

Colorado high school football returns in 2026, and one program’s sustained dominance is the state’s biggest story heading into the season.

Cherry Creek’s Historic Streak

Cherry Creek begins the year on a 28-game winning streak and is gearing up for a rematch of last year’s 5A championship game, having defeated Ralston Valley 56-28 in December to capture the title—the 13th state championship in legendary head coach Dave Logan’s career. This achievement places a coach in an elite group nationally, not just in Colorado. Ralston Valley opened its 2026 season with a decisive victory over Castle View and will have a chance to avenge its loss to Cherry Creek in an early-season matchup.

A Major Format Change

A structural change worth noting for 2026: The Colorado High School Activities Association (CSAA) will adopt a ranking formula this season based exclusively on MaxPreps, eliminating RPI rankings as a factor in both state rankings and playoff seeding. Four of the five defending state 11-a-side football champions began the 2026 season ranked No. 1 in their respective rankings; only in Class 3A did a different team start atop the standings.

Teams Standing Out Early

Montrose has boasted one of the most potent offenses in the state through the first two weeks of the season, racking up 94 points in its first two games, including a dominant 54-14 victory over Grand Junction Central, and now faces a significant road test against Palisade. Meanwhile, Valor Christian, with a 2-0 record to start the season, travels for a highly anticipated interstate matchup against California’s powerhouse Mater Dei—the kind of non-conference test that serves as a true benchmark for Colorado’s top programs against national competition.

Where to Find the Schedules

The 2026 CHSAA football season began with early practices in August, and Week Zero kicked off on August 21. Complete schedules for every team in all classifications (2A through 5A, plus the 8- and 6-a-side divisions) are available on the CHSAA website and in the Colorado football section of MaxPreps.

After the Season

In Colorado, 80 to 100 games are typically played statewide on a Friday in the fall, with rivalry games and matchups between ranked teams increasing as the playoffs approach in November.

2026 Arkansas High School Football Scores and Schedules

Published September 2, 2026 at 1:58 pm

The 2026 Arkansas high school football season is underway, and the state’s undisputed number one team faces such a brutal schedule that, theoretically, they could start the year 0-3 and still maintain their top seed.

Bryant’s Tough Start to the Season

Bryant begins the season unanimously ranked number one, seeking his third consecutive Class 7A state title after winning seven of the last eight. But the Hornets’ opening schedule is among the toughest in the nation: they debut against rival Benton in the Salt Bowl, travel to Louisiana to face Alexandria, and then take on Maryland’s powerhouse St. Frances Academy. Senior quarterback Kyler Shelby is the player who must step up if Bryant hopes to navigate this stretch without a hitch.

Tough Competition

Bentonville and Conway are tied for second place behind Bryant in the preseason polls, with Bentonville edging out Conway by a single point (102 to 101) in the Arkansas Sports Media statewide poll. Bentonville is the clear favorite in Class 6A after receiving 11 of the 12 first-place votes in that class, while Class 5A could deliver one of the most closely contested championship races in the state, with Greenwood narrowly edging out Joe T. Robinson for the top spot in the preseason standings.

Class Races to Watch

Stuttgart starts the year atop Class 4A, Fordyce leads Class 3A, and Junction City holds the top spot in the Class 2A preseason standings, closely followed by Mount Ida and a rapidly rising Magnet Cove team. In 8-a-side football, Cedar Ridge begins the season as the top-ranked program, though the competition is particularly open heading into the season.

Where to find the schedules

The Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) governs state rankings from Class 2A through Class 7A, as well as the MAIS 3A division. Complete team schedules are available in the Arkansas football section of MaxPreps, and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette publishes its own weekly standings, updated every Monday through Thanksgiving week, for fans who follow the qualifying competitions throughout the season.

Following the season

We will be keeping a close eye on Arkansas results and standings as the 2026 season unfolds, especially as Bryant overcomes its rough start and the other state qualifying competitions begin to take shape.

Check our Scores page for weekly Arkansas results, and our Rankings page for how the state’s classifications shake out as 2026 unfolds.
